Can having a pet contribute to one’s sense of wellness?

If you are a pet owner, you probably already know how much joy and comfort your furry friend can bring to your life. But did you know that having a pet can also have many benefits for your physical and mental health? In this blog post, we will explore some of the surprising science behind how pets can help you be healthier and happier.

Pets can help reduce stress and anxiety

One of the most common reasons people get pets is to have a companion who can provide emotional support and unconditional love. Pets can help us cope with stressful situations, such as work, family, or personal problems, by offering a soothing presence and a distraction from our worries. Studies have shown that petting, playing, or even just watching an animal can lower our blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels, which are associated with stress and anxiety. Pets can also release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes bonding and trust, in both humans and animals. This can enhance our mood and social skills, as well as reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.

You can use a scale at home or at the vet’s office to measure your dog’s weight. You can also look at their body shape and feel their ribs. Ideally, you should be able to see a waistline and feel the ribs without too much fat covering them.

– Feed them a balanced diet. Your dog’s diet should provide them with all the nutrients they need for their age, size, breed, and activity level. Avoid giving them human food, especially chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, and anything with artificial sweeteners. These can be toxic for dogs. You can consult your vet or a pet nutritionist for advice on what and how much to feed your dog.

– Provide them with fresh water. Your dog should always have access to clean water to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration. Change the water daily and wash the bowl regularly. You can also add some wet food or broth to their diet to increase their water intake.

– Exercise them regularly. Your dog needs physical activity to burn calories, strengthen their muscles and bones, improve their mood, and prevent boredom and destructive behavior. Depending on your dog’s breed and personality, they may need more or less exercise than others. You can walk them, play with them, or enroll them in agility or obedience classes. Make sure you don’t overexert them or expose them to extreme temperatures or weather conditions.

– Groom them regularly. Your dog’s coat, skin, nails, ears, and teeth need regular care to prevent infections, parasites, matting, and dental problems. You can brush their coat daily or weekly, depending on the length and type of hair. You can also trim their nails every few weeks or as needed, using a nail clipper or a grinder. You can clean their ears with a cotton ball and a gentle ear cleaner once a week or as needed. You can brush their teeth daily or at least a few times a week, using a toothbrush and toothpaste designed for dogs.

– Visit the vet regularly. Your dog should see the vet at least once a year for a routine check-up, vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, and any other health issues that may arise. You should also spay or neuter your dog if you don’t plan to breed them, as this can reduce the risk of certain cancers and unwanted pregnancies. If you notice any signs of illness or injury in your dog, such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, limping, scratching, loss of appetite, or changes in behavior, you should contact your vet as soon as possible.

      Hey Kiersti and thank you for commenting.  The post was about pets and wellness so I’m not entirely sure where you got the impression that it was a ‘thorough manual on making money from home’.  I did include a link to a product that I am promoting if that’s what you’re referring to.  To me, the only sure way to trust the legitimacy of online opportunities is to investigate thoroughly.  I am in the health and wellness niche so one of the ways I test the legitimacy of an affiliate marketing opportunity is to try the products myself.  I tend to  shy away from companies that have ‘just been launched’.  I prefer platforms that have been around for awhile and already have reputations for trustworthiness.  Hope that helps.
