How to Improve Your Vision Naturally: 11 Effective Ways

Are you looking for natural ways to improve your vision without glasses, contact lenses, drugs or surgery? If so, you are not alone. Many people struggle with poor eyesight and want to find alternative solutions that are safe, effective and affordable. In this blog post, we will share how to improve vision naturally and protect your eyesight from further deterioration.

  1. Get enough key vitamins and minerals. Your eyes need certain nutrients to function properly and prevent diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Some of the most important vitamins and minerals for your eyes are vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. You can get these nutrients from foods such as carrots, leafy greens, citrus fruits, nuts, seeds, eggs, and fish. Alternatively, you can take supplements that are specially formulated for eye health.
  2. Don’t forget the carotenoids. Carotenoids are pigments that give color to fruits and vegetables. They also have antioxidant properties that protect your eyes from oxidative stress and inflammation. Two of the most beneficial carotenoids for your eyes are lutein and zeaxanthin. They are found in high concentrations in the macula, the central part of the retina that is responsible for sharp vision. You can get lutein and zeaxanthin from foods such as kale, spinach, broccoli, corn, eggs, and orange peppers.
  3. Stay fit. Your overall health affects your eye health as well. Being overweight or obese can increase your risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, which can all damage your blood vessels and impair your vision. To maintain a healthy weight and lower your risk of eye problems, you should exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
  4. Lubricate your eyes. Dry eyes can cause irritation, redness, burning, itching, and blurred vision. To keep your eyes moist and comfortable, you should drink plenty of water, use artificial tears or eye drops as needed, avoid staring at screens for too long without blinking, and use a humidifier or air purifier to improve the air quality in your home or office. See post on The Importance of Hydration for Overall Health https://betterhealthbetteryou.com/the-importance-of-hydration-for-overall-health/
  5. Wear sunglasses. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can harm your eyes and increase your risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and eye cancer. To protect your eyes from UV damage, you should wear sunglasses that block 99% or more of both UVA and UVB rays whenever you are outdoors. You should also wear a hat or a visor to shield your eyes from direct sunlight.
  6. Rest your eyes frequently. Eye strain can cause headaches, fatigue, blurred vision, and dry eyes. To prevent eye strain and give your eyes a break, you should follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You should also adjust the brightness, contrast, and font size of your screen to make it easier to read. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you should take them off periodically to let your eyes relax.
  7. Do eye exercises. Eye exercises can help improve your eye muscles and flexibility, which can enhance your focus and clarity of vision. Some simple eye exercises you can do are:
  • Blinking: Blink rapidly for a few seconds to lubricate your eyes.
  • Palming: Rub your palms together until they feel warm and then place them over your closed eyes for a few minutes to relax them.
  • Rolling: Roll your eyes in a clockwise direction for 10 times and then in a counterclockwise direction for 10 times.
  • Focusing: Hold a pen or a finger at arm’s length and then bring it closer to your nose while keeping it in focus. Repeat this 10 times.
  • Zooming: Sit comfortably and stretch out your arm with your thumb up. Focus on your thumb as you bring it closer to your face until it is about three inches away from your nose. Then move it back to arm’s length while keeping it in focus. Repeat this 10 times.

  1. Eat more omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for maintaining healthy cell membranes and reducing inflammation in your body. They also play a role in preventing dry eyes by improving the quality and quantity of your tears. You can get omega-3 fatty acids from foods such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and soybeans.
  2. Avoid allergens. Protecting your eyes from allergens is essential for maintaining good eye health. Allergens, such as pollen, dust mites and pet dander can cause eye irritation, redness, and swelling. To protect your eyes, avoid contact with known allergens as much as possible. Keep windows and doors closed during high pollen seasons, use a dehumidifier to reduce dust mites and wash your hands frequently to remove allergens. Additionally, wear sunglasses or protective eyewear when outdoors to block allergens from entering your eyes. By taking these steps, you can help protect your eyes from the discomfort and irritation caused by allergens.
  3. Break from the computer: One of the most common health problems associated with prolonged computer use is eye strain. Eye strain can cause headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and fatigue. To prevent eye strain, it is important to take regular breaks from the computer screen. Experts recommend following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look away from the computer at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This helps relax the eye muscles and reduce eye fatigue. Taking breaks from the computer also benefits your mental health, productivity and creativity. So, protect your eyes and your well-being by taking a break from the computer every now and then.
